U.S. equity markets posted gains in two of the three indexes last week. The S&P 500 gained 0.54%, the NASDAQ Composite gained 0.40%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.17%. Seven of the 11 sectors were up last week; Health Care posted the largest gain at about 2.03%. Six of the eight Quantified Funds were up last week: The Quantified Pattern Recognition Fund (QSPMX) gained 1.34%, the Quantified Market Leaders Fund (QMLFX) gained 1.31%, the Quantified All-Cap Equity Fund (QACFX) was up 1.12%, the Quantified Evolution Plus Fund (QEVOX) was up 0.31%, the Quantified Alternative Investment Fund (QALTX) gained 0.21%, the Quantified Managed Income Fund (QBDSX) was up 0.20%, the Quantified Fixed Income Tactical Fund (QFITX) lost 0.20%, and the Quantified STF Fund (QSTFX) was down 0.67%.
The All-Cap Fund’s daily trading of S&P 500 futures started the week 3.5% net long, increased to 4.1% net long on Wednesday’s close, decreased to 3.8% net long on Thursday’s close, and increased to 4.4% net long on Friday’s close. The Fund’s daily trading of NASDAQ 100 Index futures began the week 0.6% net long, decreased to 0.0% net neutral on Monday’s close, increased to 0.6% net long on Tuesday’s close, and then increased to 1.2% net long on Thursday’s close where it remained through Friday.
The Market Environment Indicator (MEI) remained bullish last week. On Friday, equity asset-class allocations in the Quantified Market Leaders Fund remained at the following: Large-Cap Growth (30.26%), Mid-Cap Growth (22.70%), Large-Cap Value (15.14%), and Mid-Cap Value (7.56%). Total sector ETF weightings were at approximately 75.68%, holding equal exposures in Electronics, Consumer Services, Technology, and Real Estate. The individual ETF positions with the leading portfolio weightings were the SPDR Financial ETF (XLF, 18.92%), the iShares DJ Real Estate ETF (IYR, 18.92%), and the iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF (IWD, 15.13%). Total cash remained at 21.11%.
Within the Quantified Alternative Investment Fund (QALTX), the Long/Short Market Neutral Alternative subportfolio made no major changes last week. There were a few changes among the largest positions: Allocation to the First Trust Global Wind Energy ETF (FAN, 1.00%) increased, while allocation to the ProShares DJ Brookfield Global Infrastructure ETF (TOLZ, 0.00%) decreased. Last week, the funds were up 0.75% and 0.95%, respectively.
The cash level within the Alternative Fund increased to 15.21% last week. The daily trading of S&P 500 Index futures with 10% fund capital allocation remained neutral for the week. The 7.5% capital allocation of the volatility-based systematic trading of NASDAQ 100 Index futures began the week 1.0% net long, decreased to 0.0% net neutral on Monday’s close, increased back to 1.0% net long on Tuesday’s close, and increased to 2.0% net long on Thursday’s close where it remained through Friday.
The Self-adjusting Trend Following strategy’s signal exposure in the NASDAQ 100 Index (NDX) was 100% exposed at the beginning of the week and increased to 200% exposure on Tuesday’s close where it remained through Friday. The Quantified STF Fund (QSTFX) was down 0.67%, compared to gain of 0.31% on the NASDAQ 100 Index (NDX) and a gain of 0.27% for the Rydex Series NASDAQ 100 Fund (RYHOX), a current potential holding of the STF strategy.
The Quantified Managed Income Fund’s (QBDSX) two leading broad-bond index ETF holdings are the Invesco Preferred ETF (PGX, 16.63%) and the iShares iBoxx $ Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (LQD, 15.63%). Last week, the funds were up 0.53% and 0.44%, respectively. Cash remained at 2.50%.
The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield closed the week up 0.08%. The 12% active portfolio exposure to 30-year U.S. Treasury bond futures in the Fund started the week at 6.2% net long, decreased to 5.5% net long on Monday’s close, increased to 6.0% net long on Wednesday’s close, and decreased to 5.5% net long on Friday’s close.
The Quantified Pattern Recognition Fund (QSPMX) started the week with a leverage factor of 0%, increased to 80% on Monday’s close, and decreased back to 0% leverage on Tuesday’s close where it remained through Friday.
The Quantified Tactical Fixed Income Fund (QFITX) started the week with an allocation of 36% in RHYBX, 41% in PAIQX, and 23% in DXHYX. The allocations remained there throughout the week.
The Quantified Evolution Plus Fund (QEVOX) remained at the following allocations: 42% in long-term Treasurys, 32% in intermediate-term Treasurys, 15% in real estate, 6% in the NASDAQ, and 5% in the S&P.
